COTTRELLVILLE TWP PARKS & RECREATION COMMITTEE

By Mary Agnes Simons, Chairperson

Your Township Parks & Recreation Committee had a very busy last half of the season. Our Annual Township Picnic, held in September was planned by our members, under the direction of Special Events Director Michelle Davis. Hot dogs and popcorn cooked by Tug’s Lunchbox, and our very own township clown, Jynil Schneider, entertained the children with face painting and animal balloons. Stan the Magical Fireman gave rides on his fire truck along the walking path around the township park. Thanks to the Marine City Fire Department for bringing in “a real fire rig” for the kids to check out.

Our Halloween Party was a hoot too! Hot dogs were grilled by our township supervisor, Tom Raymond, and our twp. planning commission chairman, Chris Marko. Many outstanding Halloween outfits paraded around on the hayride provided by Troy Davis and his tractor & trailer, with his children directing the fun!

This year, we had a new event for Christmas, a Santa Party. Not only did Santa show up, but Mrs. Claus helped out, as well. Parks & Rec provided hot chocolate, and cookies and many parents took pictures for posterity. Parks & Rec gave away a pair of gloves and a candy cane to the children who attended, while Santa listened to each child’s Christmas wish list. A special thanks to Mr. & Mrs.Tom McConnell!

Our township park will be open April 1st, 2009. The following dates are for the special events sponsored by your Township Parks & Recreation Committee:

Sunday, April 5th, 2009 Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Sunday, July 26th, 2009 Annual Township Picnic

Sunday, October 25th, 2009 Annual Halloween Party

The Parks & Rec committee is kicking around ideas for some new events this summer and would appreciate any input from fellow residents regarding them. We are shooting for Sunday, May 17th, 2009, for a: Perennial Flower Exchange, Township Flea Market and Bake Sale. So, get ready to dig up your perennials and exchange with other residents to get a new variety growing in your garden. Bring in some baked goods, as all the money raised will go to our Township Parks & Recreation events for the kids, and the flea market will help clean out your garage and attic, and put the stuff to good use! We are also considering incorporating an antique car and/or tractor show into the township picnic. If your club would be interested in participating, please contact the township hall.

So, please watch the Voice Newspaper in the Calendar Section to hear more about these events!
