COMMUNICATIONS

a). Notice of Educational Session sponsored by St Clair County Planning Commission for "Citizens Planner" through MSU Extension Program Scheduled for Monday, March 31st, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

b). Letter to Twp Board requesting permission for members to attend,

dated February 27th, 2008.

Note: April 30 township food giveaway; to help arrive at 11 a.m.

OLD BUSINESS

a). Discussion of setting up a joint meeting between the City of Marine City Planning Commission and Cottrellville Twp Planning Commission.

Possible informal discussion, specific agenda. Interceding by Montgomery & Associates representative Richard Smith.

Mr. Smith explained that different units of government can act cooperatively at will. Discussed issues we have in common with Marine City- King Road extension, township “islands” within the city limits. Discussed annexations.

Motion: by Bernie Pelc to have Mr. Smith arrange informal meeting in May or June w/Marine City Planning Commission for discussion of mutual interests such as zoning.

b). Noxious Weed Ordinance discussion.

Discussion that most noxious weed ordinances are extensive; can be watered down. We need township attorney’s input on feasibility/ language to address only lawns. Mary Agnes to follow up with Township Supervisor.

c). Discussion of future items for the Agenda that need attention or refinement.

Discussion re: lack of dangerous building ordinance.

Motion by Mary Agnes Simons to pursue creating a dangerous building ordinance.

Discussion re: status of our updated ordinances. Mr. Smith indicated it’s still in the works. He will provide the name and contact for the codification firm doing the work on this so we can check on status.

NEW BUSINESS

a. Election of Officers for Planning Commission for 2008.

Proposed slate:

Chair: Chris Marko

Vice Chair: Mary Agnes Simons

Secretary: Georgia Phelan

Motion by Bernie Pelc to accept this slate

Second: George Kunnath

b. Bill Jenuwine position clarification: Bill is a regular member of the planning commission, Bernie Pelc is the Planning Commission Township Board Representative. Bernie’s term is up October 2008; Bill’s is up April 2008.

c. Review of zoning: Bernie Pelc will coordinate with Mary Agnes and Bill Jenuwine a review of our township zoning Master Plan maps and bring back a report with suggested changes/considerations for joint meeting with Marine City. Tentative date for joint meeting with Marine City Planning Commission- June 18 (Wednesday).
